Dunn's Home Furnishings... In the Beginning!

In 1912, at the age of 22, George R. Dunn borrowed money from his father, a harness maker, and began a furniture store. The business was located in a building erected in 1867 adjacent to the Eric Canal at One Main Street in the canal town of Brockport, New York.
The business prospered and grew. In 1943 George moved to a larger space south of the original at 15 Main Street, the current home of the Tri-County Advertiser. Dunn's sold a full line of home merchandise from linoleum to pots and pans, and of course, furniture.

| In 1950, at the age of 25, George T. Dunn joined his father George R. at Dunn's. The store continued to grow, and in 1956, father and son were proud to build a 16,000 square foot building at 115 Main Street, site of the present store.
Over the next 40 years, the Dunns began to specialize in furniture and bedding. George R. died in 1970 after a successful career of 58 years. George T., with the help of his wife Betty, continued to run the store, and in 1985 their youngest son, John, joined them.
In 1995, John took charge of Dunn's upon his fathers retirement. The Rochester Chamber of Commerce recognizes Dunn's Home Furnishings as the oldest, family-run furniture store in Monroe County.
